Leading From The Front
Is your management style to lead from the front or lead from the back?
If you have a small group of people to manage, chances are that the only effective management strategy is to lead from the front.
And if you don’t lead from the front?
Someone else will.
Have you ever heard any “business is war” analogies?
Let’s use one to illustrate.
When William Wallace led his people into battle, did he sit back on the hill and watch what happened on the battlefield?
He led the charge.
He fought with the same tools that his soldiers did and was a fierce (if not the best) warrior in the crowd.
Think about his leadership style — active.
Now think about the leadership style of “the boss” of William Wallace.
His leadership style could be described as — passive.
So passive in fact that he didn’t even show up for battles.
Putting that in the business world today.
If you are a leader of people – are you actively leading the charge from the front and fighting the same battles as your employees?
If not, guess what:
You won’t be the leader very long.
Because someone else is doing it when you are not.
- Someone else is leading the charge.
- Someone else is helping train the soldiers.
- Someone else is showing-by-doing exactly what needs to be done.
And sooner or later — the leader who leads from the front and does those simple things — is the one who ends up being in charge.
